It is the vision of the Risk Management/ Safety Department to provide the citizens and employees of Lake City with a safe and environmentally sound place to live and play. This department is committed to comply with all state, federal and local laws and ordinances that pertain to public and employee safety. It is the vision of this department to provide the City with safe working conditions that will keep workers compensation insurance cost affordable.

This department is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the City of Lake City’s safety program along with administering the City of Lake City’s Workman’s Compensation, Automotive, Property and General Liability Insurance. This department investigates all traffic accidents, sewer back-ups and all employee accidents. This department also works with the County Emergency Management and provides safety information to all departments as needed and conducts housekeeping/safety inspections on all City of Lake City property.

The Risk Management/ Safety Department will maintain a safe working environment by keeping employees trained on safe working methods. This will be done by the following methods:

  • Regular safety committee meetings
  • Prepare safety training as requested by each department
  • Training on M.O.T.
  • Annual Forklift training
  • Develop a fire department safety committee
  • Review and investigate each accident
  • Maintain CDL and Gas Department Drug screens
  • Maintain all workers compensation claims
  • Maintain all general liability claims
  • Maintain all property and auto claims
  • Keep  property insurance schedule current
  • Keep auto insurance schedule current
  • Assist attorneys with gathering information for city's legal defense
  • Conduct inspections on park equipment twice per year
  • Develop a fleet safety policy
  • Conduct Six Sigma projects as directed
  • Conduct any training as directed
