Originally launched in 2019, the Summer Youth Employment Program was created as a proactive way to engage local youth and build positive relationships with law enforcement. Research shows that idle time during the summer months—when school is out and structured activities are limited—can be linked to an increase in mischief and petty crimes. This program helps counter that trend by providing meaningful employment opportunities that allow students to gain work experience, build their résumés, and develop professional references.

Participants will work Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Prior to starting employment, all youth will complete soft skills training through Florida Ready to Work with CareerSource North Central Florida.

Students will earn $15 per hour and may earn up to $2,880 before taxes during the six-week program.

Applicants must:
• Be a high school student between the ages of 16 and 18 (or 19 if graduating in 2026)
